Medicare Part A covers up to 100% of the cost of hospice care related to a hospice-eligible patient’s illness, with no deductible or copayment. This includes visits by the nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals, as well as supplies, medical equipment, and medications—although certain prescription drugs unrelated to a patient's terminal diagnosis and some services may be only be covered by the patient's additional insurance plans, such as traditional HMOs, and/ or require small out-of-pocket payments. In most states, Medicaid/ Medi-Cal also provides hospice coverage and palliative care benefits.
